Peachtree City is the "most affordable suburb" in Georgia, according to BusinessWeek magazine, who cited the city's cart path system, Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center, and two lakes.

Peachtree City is the “most affordable suburb” in Georgia, according to BusinessWeek magazine, who cited the city’s cart path system, Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center, and two lakes.

Home affordability – with the city’s median home price at $247,900 – was the most important factor in the magazine’s calculations. The average commute was listed at 29 minutes.

Other considerations included low pollution and green space; well-educated residents and high test scores in schools; low personal and property crime; and impressive economy with high job growth, high family income, and low unemployment rate.

BusinessWeek penalized places with lack of racial diversity, bad weather, high divorce rates, and few children. In Peachtree City, the survey noted that 48 percent of the city’s residents are married with children.

The magazine considered communities with populations ranging from 5,000 to 60,000 within 25 miles of the most populated city in each state, median family incomes of $51,000 to $200,000, and lower than average crime rates.

“Residents are attracted to Peachtree City for its recreation-oriented lifestyle, award-winning schools, extensive variety of home styles and prices, and 90 some miles of cart paths for jogging, bicycling, walking and golf cart rides,” said The Home Source Realtors Qualifying Broker Linda Huff. “The city’s convenience to I-85 for a quick commute to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and downtown Atlanta is an added bonus.”

Peachtree City has been named one of its “10 Best Places to Retire in Georgia” by Retire in Georgia magazine, a publication of Georgia Lifestyles Publishing, Inc.

Criteria included travel and tourism assets, cost of living, health care infrastructure, population dynamics, housing, community commitment, climate, technology infrastructure, state and local parks systems and lifelong learning opportunities. Nominations from cities and counties throughout Georgia were considered for the honor.

Peachtree City, one of the most successful planned communities in the country, has long been recognized for its recreation oriented lifestyle, 80+ miles of cart paths winding through four independent but interconnected villages, thriving business climate, top-ranked schools, and proximity to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and downtown Atlanta.

“Peachtree City has a lifestyle popular with people of all ages,” said The Home Source Realtors Managing Broker Cheri Scranage. “There is so much here for everyone. Many residents describe Peachtree City as living in a resort.”

Labor Day weekend in Newnan, GA and Coweta County is earmarked by the Powers’ Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival. Attending and volunteering at “Powers” has become a Newnan tradition for many.

Fayette County is the only metro Atlanta school system in which all schools met federal Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standards for 2008 under the federal No Child Left Behind act.

Fayette also is one of only a few Georgia school systems with 100 percent AYP rankings for the past five years. 2008 marked the 10th consecutive year that North Fayette Elementary and Burch Elementary met the AYP standards.

“Of the 34 systems in Georgia meeting AYP requirements in 2008, all the others have fewer than 10 schools compared to Fayette’s 28 schools,” noted Fayette school system spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach.

The 2008 accomplishment is impressive, according to State School Superintendent Kathy Cox, since the percentage of students required to pass state tests in math, reading and English increased for all grade levels, and students were doing more difficult work and taking more rigorous tests.
